Drawing attached to this Report. It will be seen that
we propose a spur from near the southern end of the
existing Ereakwater, extending for a length of about 700
ft. in a southerly direction. This protecting spur
will prevent any sen from S.V. to W. entering the harbour,
and craft will be protected by the spur while passing
through the entrance. In a heavy gale from S.V. there
may be a run alongside the inside of the spur sving te
waves coming round the nose of the spur, but this run will
be absorbed by the angle a between the existing breakwater
and the spur. There may possibly be some slight disturb-
ance with a 3.3.V, sea at the re-entrant angle between the

not necessary in the first instance to make any provision on that account, but if found at a later date that any trouble is caused, it can be stopped at once by filling The inter up the angle with concrete blocks as shown. atices between the blocks will absorb any wave action
that may occur.
Ve consider that the line proposed for the new spur will not cause sny difficulty to craft entering the harbour by the southern entrance at any time.
It will be seen from the above that the only work we propose at present at the Southern Entrance is the construction of the spur from the existing breskwater. Then Sir Saurice Fitzmaurice examined the Ereakwater he noticed that practically no deterioration, except in the case of a few concrete slabs, has taken place since it was constructed, and it may therefore be assumed that this
